Anyway. How are we all doing this aggressively sunny Monday morning? Anyone get up to anything exciting over the weekend?

I’ve just woke up, managed to get a bit of relaxing done this weekend although not as much as planned so feeling extra bitter about being back to work. Hay fever is on a mission to kill me. Not getting much sleep in general at the moment which is making everything else seem ten times worse.

On the bright side we went swimming yesterday and last time my legs really started to stiffen up the day after but this time I’ve escaped unscathed, so just goes to show how quickly it makes a difference! Also I managed to sort of half figure out a concept in my game dev hobby that’s been kicking my arse the last couple weeks. Still a long way to go until it actually works properly, but I’m making progress and quite proud.

For once, Past Me really put the legwork in on a project last week so Present Me gets to have a fairly slack Monday for once. Sounds good to me!

We’re going on our first holiday as a family of four today. Both my kids have come down with colds in the last few days and then last night, at the worst possible moment it was revealed that our daughter has a recurrence of the Pinworm she had a few weeks ago. I spent my night on her floor, she spent the night itching and crying.

So yeah. We’re all going on a summer holiday…

Nightmare! I remember finding out about pinworm as a kid and then living in absolute fear of it for about a year. Thankfully never happened.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon. And hey, at least you’re all getting to spend time together, plus it’ll be a fun story to roast the kids with when they’re older.

Forgot to add a veg to dinner, but saved the potential nutritional disaster by adding tomato sauce to my fish’n’chips.

That doesn’t count, everyone knows tomato is a fruit! Although, potato, hmm you’ve got me there.

It was my turn at works music player and its the worst feeling ever. I put a Neil Young record on (On The Beach) and pretended to go back to work but secretly I’m just waiting for it / me to be judged. I should have just put the 1993 Mr. Blobby single on repeat.

I think my kettle is busted… It keeps boiling and doesn’t stop.

Time to get a new one. ☹️

That reminds me of the time I left the kettle with the lid open in my room to humidify it a bit. I forgot I’d switched it on, went to have a shower, and came back to find it had boiled dry, my room was full of steam so thick you couldn’t see through it, and the wallpaper had started to bubble and almost strip off.

I’m at the start of 2 weeks off with the in laws visiting from Europe. I don’t talk their language and whilst they do speak some English they tend to speak to my partner in the home language. So finding myself here on lemmy a bit more than usual.

Ooh no that is giving me socially awkward palpitations. I bet your partner has mastered the skill of diplomatic translation, though.

Well she’s trying! They are full on for her, and she feels guilty for me. I keep telling her not to worry, it’s not her fault. I am the breakfast chef (England so it’s English breakfast) and I’ll take them all out for the day now

I have this to look forward to in a few weeks. My wife’s friend is coming to stay for two weeks and she speaks zero English. I do speak a bit of their language, but only to a low intermediate level, so it’s going to be tough.

I’m trying to get my workplace unionised, but I have this one colleague who keeps insisting that Unite has shareholders and the biggest shareholder is Blackrock and Vanguard and it’s all a plot. I was like ??? Unions have shareholders now?

So I did a bit of sleuthing and it seems he came across a website about a private real estate company that’s also called Unite who does indeed have shares owned by Blackrock and Vanguard.

I’m not going mad, am I? Unions don’t have investors and shareholders. He really did conflate this separate company with the union? I just need to put his conspiracy theory to bed so I can try to get our place unionised.
