It seems enthusiasts have gone nuts over the recent cable snap on Kingda Ka with many saying it’ll be closed all season. Reality is that a cable snap is not unheard of and is a part that parks typically have on hand (which, according to my contacts, seems to be the case here). In reading this article it seems clear that NJ is over-reacting and requiring a re-inspection which is what’s taking it so long to reopen. If all goes well, the ride should reopen next week after NJ inspects the ride (which they won’t do on a weekend or the holiday on Monday).

The article is a bit over-hyped as the media usually does with roller coasters but if you pay attention to what they are saying it’s clear that this isn’t a big deal like many have been suggesting that it was.

It’s not ideal for sure but it does seem like it would happen from time to time given the stresses involved.

Yea, it’s something that’s just going to happen… even new parts can break. Functionally it’s similar to a lift chain breaking. The ride is designed to contain the cable as much as possible so it’s generally safe (despite one incident that happened at Knott’s).

I really can’t understand all the people that were saying this ride is down for the season because of a cable snap… it just made no sense.
