Cyberpunk: 2077 is a videogame based on the Cyberpunk TTRPG. Cyberpunk is also a literary genre. When I say Cyberpunk, I mean the genre in which both the TTRPG and videogame live.
The anime is very good but the story follows the tropes of the cyberpunk literary genre. Unfortunately, if you are not familiar with the genre, I cannot explain it without spoiling the story.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Its on Netflix.
Fair warning. It’s a proper Cyberpunk story.
What does that warning mean? That it’s bad, that it’s good, that it released in a broken state…?
EDIT: Got it now, thanks.
Cyberpunk stories are about corporate dystopias. Not many dystopian stories have a happy ending.
If you’re looking for a happy ending…wrong people, wrong city.
Still a fantastic show though, literally brought the game back from the dead.
I love edgerunners for that, it showed (imo) cyberpunk better.
A lot of stuff clicked for me after the show, while the game didn’t really show it.
The comics are also good, especially Blackout.
It does not end happily for pretty much anybody involved
That it’s pretty miserable. But it’s really good.

It also happens to include over-the-top gory violence that even made me feel uneasy
