They cancelled my offer. I have 3 charges for shoplifting against me from 9 years ago which I mentioned in advance and it was fine.

In fucked now. Completely and utterly fucked.

Mentioned in advance. Then they pulled it out of the hat at the last minute. That is absolutely gross. If they weren’t OK with it, they should have said so earlier - much earlier.

By the way, you can apply to have minor offence charges struck off your record after a period of clean living. Not sure what the period is for shoplifting. Something about the Statute of Limitations. Might be worth enquiring about this at Legal Aid or other community legal service.

!!! This is unbelievable. Do they do public service contracts, is that why they’re so anal? Regardless, how could they tell you one thing and then do another? Aside from being horrific for you it’s a waste of their own time and resources too.

I am so, so sorry. Be gentle with yourself today and try your best to focus on the good that you have brought and will continue to bring to your life and the world. This has got to be a matter of messed up communication or legal requirements. If not, then they’re not good people… It’s not a black mark on your character even if a part of your brain wants you to think it is. We believe in you!

Wtf!! That’s so fucked!! At the same time, that’s a red flag for them to say they’re cool with it and then use it as an excuse. Fuck them!

That’s really shit. I know you’re probably feeling really really shit (and completely fairly), but when you start to feel better you should write them a strongly worded email, essentially calling them a gaggle of cunts. I guess the silver lining (even though that doesn’t make up for it) is that at least you’ve seen their true colours early on. I know it doesn’t change things, but you’ll probably be better off working elsewhere if that’s the kind of business they run.

::: also if you feel like being petty: spoiler Also, you can name and shame if you feel comfortable doing so. You won’t be sued. The very worst that could happen is you may get a cease and desist (they can be sent for any reason AFAIK), but nothing would hold up in court provided you don’t tell people to harass them or release personal info :::

Got the word this afternoon that my role is being extended for another 18 months. They couldn’t swing making it permanent, but we’ll look at that again in 18 months’ time. No going back to Operations. All Strategy for me!

G’day MW! Good to see you again. I strongly recommend a password manager. I personally use bitwarden and it’s really good. I know it’s a bit nerve wracking putting all your passwords in one place, especially with what happened to LastPass, but as long as you use a strong master password there’s nothing to worry about

The worst of it is they managed to get breached and had everybody’s password vaults stolen. This isn’t quite code black, as it is encrypted, but you never know if perhaps in 10 years time computers will be fast enough to break into vaults, even the ones with strong passwords. And changing hundreds of accounts is a pain in the arse

I stopped using them a bit before that though, back when they started limiting you to a max of 1 device type on the free tier, so you could only use it on either your phone or computer.

Either of them are ultimately going to be better than just writing down your passwords (susceptible to floods/fires/etc) or using the in built google password manager (or probably apples either). Although if you ever leave your job, or you get stingey management, or whatever, you would probably lose access to your premium LastPass account, so then you have to choose between your phone or computer unless you pick up the coat yourself. It is really easy to move to other managers though, you just have to go to settings and export your passwords then import with bitwarden or whatever

Wow I really waffled. TL;DR is that they got breached and leaked everybody’s password vaults (but not their actual passwords), and also put in some profit increasing strategies a few years ago

I’ve decided Marketing Cloud isn’t for me and I think I’ll find another job.

Some rather promising Victorian State Government (multiple positions) roles have come up so I’ll try my luck

husband insists on playing tv shows with very loud bass sound bar. we have a tiny lounge area and a small screen. I just can’t even stay in the same room, even if it’s a show I love

it’s not immersive, it’s unreal and doesn’t add to the experience ,

Gawd walking to dans for goon just now after shifting those couches to the tip yesterday has roooned me.

    Quads are on fire.

On the plus side all the neighbours were out doing their gardening things on the way home all saying hello to eachother so that was wholesome.

Nothing makes me feel richer than buying something that’s hidden behind the counter and only has empty boxes on the shelves

    spoiler

Except of course the fact that even a single $1 stamp is hidden behind the counter now

Got a cold call for a job that’s a lot like what I used to do so I’m 95% sure I don’t want it, but I’ve got dragged into a chat with the director on Monday anyway despite telling the recruiter it’s probably not for me??

Am bored/curious so I’ll go, although I don’t like wasting people’s time… but geez the recruiter was persistent. I’m sure he must be getting a cut for any interview he scores even though the chance of converting it into a hire is low

Never feel bad about wasting a company’s time when it comes to hiring. Everyone gets jerked around in the hiring process, it’s good to give it back to them now and then

Very fair point. That makes me feel better about going in out of sheer curiosity and to work out where I fit in in the industry and maybe make a couple connections. It has been a long road towards not taking these evaluations too personally (whether positive or negative) or feel like I need to be selling myself at all times. And it’s a small industry, so it’s easy to feel over-conscious about what people think, but I’m sure I can still maintain a decent enough profile with a gracious “thanks but no thanks” at the end of the interview.

They don’t get a cut for the interview, but they do if you are hired and it’s a lot. Something like 5-10% of your salary. If they fill a $100k position, they get something like $10k. Or, their employer does. Which is why you see so many recruiters self-employed.

I figured it should be for hires, not just finding candidates and getting interviews. Guy must be a bit of a rookie if he thinks I’d seriously convert into a hire but I guess it’s a tight market in that specific sector.

I just found my spare car key, which I lost about 10 years ago! It was in a magnetic keyholder on the inside of the door of my shed in the carport. Now that I have found it I have a vague recollection of putting it there because I need to move the car to fully open the shed door. Obviously this did not turn out to be a helpful move.

What happened to the whether inbetween the extremes?
