It’s just a little exploit in the brain code written on3 for monkeys, the infinite attention glitch happens when a tasks complexity is low and the chance of a random reward is perceived to be high. Get a small reward at random intervals and it makes you feel like the big win is spin away

I’ve never really “got” slots, it does seems like you’re putting coins in to watch a fancy representation of a dice roll every time.

I really enjoy the machines known as “fruit machines” or “gamblers” or “puggies” in the UK - it’s still RNG at it’s core but at least it’s a bit more interactive in how you activate the main and special features, and it’s fun learning what the games are and how each machine behaves.

Plus, if you do drop the jackpot, it’s nice having the next round of pints paid for in advance.

I used to live in a small boring town, but there was a tribal casino not too far from where we lived. I admit we’d (my husband and I) go put in $20 at the slots sometimes on a Friday. We were realistic about losing money, but since it went to the tribe we didn’t really care. It was entertainment and just a nice change of scenery in the bleak winter. I know it can be an addiction though for some people.

That’s the key, isn’t it. If you’re got twenty dollars or twenty quid in your pocket - so long as you enjoy it and you can afford to lose it, you’re fine.

If one or both of those don’t hold true though, there’s an issue.

Seeing as I’ve mentioned it, if you (whoever’s reading this, not you who’s replied) recognise this, there’s resources out there to help you , good luck 😊
