Pretty sure that’s a picture of the Andromeda galaxy so I’m nowhere near there. We don’t have images like that of the Milky Way for hopefully obvious reasons.
6·5 days agoGood(ish) news everyone! Our current models suggest it probably won’t happen this century (although it might) so it’s probably another generation’s problem (although it might not be and it’s still definitely our actions, or lack thereof, that would be fucking them over).
Sorry, that’s about as comforting as climate science gets these days.
If it makes you feel any better it’s simultaneously gaining ~25Mt of ice an hour (on average) due (mainly) to snowfall so it’s “only” losing ~5Mt per hour net.

6·22 days agoIt sort of does go both ways and you should always take these numbers with a grain of salt but the Ukrainian numbers are at least possible and probably somewhere in the right ball park whereas Russia keeps claiming to have destroyed more of various western systems than have ever been in Ukraine for example.
