The common rebuttal has always been “would you want to hear from the ref if we’ve had a boring game?” Which basically goes back to them really only being asked to justify bad calls.

Instead they should just live broadcast all VAR communications on TV (I don’t think it’d be practical to do in the stadium), that way every decision has context and nothing can be hidden.

I think it’s fair to say we deserve accountability, not justification.

There’s no such thing as “under the radar” when you’re talking about a club with the most obnoxious fan base and who control half of the football media.
