It’s a nice way to deal with it. Starling let you have a “linked” card which acts as a card w. Ringfenced money assigned to it which I like. It’s part of their “spaces” setup.
They’re free to open. Couldn’t say how their overdraft charges compare (and they don’t offer very large ones) but they’ve been a decent current account for me at least.
I used a secondary current account like this. Transfer the cash I am happy to spend on non essentials to it and only spend out of that
