If you missed out on the previously available Ghostbusters 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, containing the classic 1984 comedy and its slime-filled sequel, pre-orders have just been listed through Amazon for what is advertised as a “limited edition reprint.”
Initially made available back in 2019, corresponding alongside the franchise’s 35th-anniversary, the 5-disc collection was noteworthy upon release, as not only were both films presented in beautiful 4K HDR10, but a treasure trove of then-newly added special features were included, among them deleted scenes, outtakes, audio commentaries, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray’s ShoWest Exhibitor Reel, the cast of Ghostbusters II on The Oprah Winfrey Show, original EPKs, and much more.
As the Amazon listing page suggests, the reprint is an exact release of the 2019 4K UHD SteelBook, showcasing the same line-up of features and specs. For those who already picked up a copy during the 35th-anniversary celebration, there appears to be absolutely no reason to double-dip, especially for anyone lucky enough to have grabbed last year’s now-discontinued Ghostbusters: Ultimate Collection boxset, which included even more special features, paired alongside 2021’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
A limited edition reprint of a limited edition - gives everyone a chance to grab it if they missed out. I think I’ll lurk on eBay for the Ultimate Collection to try and bag it at a price that doesn’t feel like my wallet got torpedoed below the waterline. It’s 9be of those releases that fell in the period I was trying to buy a house and my life was on hold.
Also I am unsure of the UK availability for this. Once you start importing it…
Ouch. £70.56 to pre order now. I wasn’t happy with Sony pricing that ultimate set so highly when it has such amazing special features. I already have GB: Afterlife and 2016 on 4K. I’m just scouring eBay for cheap chips of the first two occasionally. I already have GB1 twice on Blu-ray!
Oh and on the price - this was the news article that initially caught my attention:
So I am expecting the price to be closer to the Walmart one.
Okay. I’ll keep an eye on the Amazon pricing. That’s quite high for what is essentially a reissue.
Yeah, I think they can often be listed at the RRP and fall in line with other pricing after a few days (I assume they scrape the web to compare prices because, as it stands, they are going to get no sales at that price). I notice sites like Amazon and, especially, HMV adjusted their prices during the Arrow sales to match.
Also, are you looking on Amazon UK? I can’t find the listing there at the moment.
No, as I realised it was a US announcement, I went straight to Amazon.com and made a pre-order and went to the final stage to reveal the all in cost to get a copy here. I wonder if it will get a reissue here?
Probably not but Amazon UK do often list US films on their site that you can import. Not sure the difference between that and ordering from the UK site.
What you could do, is pre-order it, keep and eye on the price (as their pre-order guarantee will give you the lowest price it hits before release) and you can always cancel it if it is too expensive.
The Amazon US price inc delivery has now dropped to £47. Delivery is about $7 of the total price.
Although I’ve noticed I can get the original version from CEX for under half that price, just not in a fancy tin. 😁
Yeah, but… fancy tin.
Anyway, thanks for the update. I may pull the trigger on that.
