I actually really enjoy this, it’s really cool to login each day and only see UK specific content in a similar style of the subreddits of old, and with most of the features of Reddit. Previously I had to have them with a multi reddit, but my home page was full of world wide content.

I like that due to federation I can still look at content from around the world but it’s not my default experience. Feels more personalised.

Would people be interested in a “request a community” community? I was thinking about how patchy the coverage is and saw something similar pop up on another instance. It would give people the chance to flag up what they think is needed or would be of interest. It can either be the same an existing Reddit sub or something new - no need for us just being a Reddit clone.

It would mean that, as people migrate over, they find the places they are looking for and can just carry in pretty seamlessly.

Sounds like a good idea to me 👍 I made 3 communities but hesitant to moderate anymore at the moment unless I’m requested to. Mod work is light at the moment but come July 1st I think we will start to see more users via apps, I heard reddit is fun dev is making a Lemmy app so I reckon that alone will bring tens of thousands over.

I’ve held back on number of communities moderated too, as I feel at this stage it’s also kinda my duty to act as a starter motor until things get going.
Being a mayor of a ghost town ain’t no fun!

Some other instances have community creation turned off, so communities need to be thought through and sent to admins for approval. I’m kinda neutral on the idea, because while it might raise the quality and commitment, it’s another entry barrier.

Yeah, I am in the same boat - there are communities we need but I am not knowledgeable enough to do much getting it started. I could see me starting some but one of my first posts would be a request for moderators.

I’ll get that community rolling and see how it goes - it might focus folks on things they can do.

I’m currently using the Jerboa app, which is working nicely but it’s handy to have an idea of the date of the coming storm. Might be able to get a few things up and running before then.
