“Alien: Romulus” takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots: While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group o…

Looks derivative. Is there more to the story this time other than “stumble upon Alien, get hunted”?

Did you watch the 2013 Evil Dead reboot?

It’s about as derivative as derivative gets, and it was fucking amazing.

The director also worked on this one, so I’m hyped.

Sometimes remaking the wheel (Prometheus) doesn’t suit the franchise. Give me some “stumble upon Alien, get face raped” please, with extra thrust.

I’m a fan of the franchise, so I’ll almost certainly see this. But I’m not expecting any real originality … I’m seeing it more like a cover of a classic (which, despite disliking reboots etc, I’m kinda ok with when it comes to classics with franchises … maybe it’s good just to revisit things without a full rewatch?)

Apart from young adults on a spaceship/station and a laboratory named Romulus, nothing else has been revealed plot wise.

Looks great, my only quibble is that it feels like they just remixed the best bits of the first two films.

But that’s when this film is set!! (Seriously)

What else can they do? This looks like it is leaning more on the horror than sci-fi side. Maybe adapt one of the many comics, but would a budget allow for such grand ideas? There have been some great stories where scientists think they have the creatures under control.

This was one of my favourites. One of the panels had that scientist with an alien on a leash!

That’s an awesome one! Great backstory for the villain guy.

Stronghold was another good one - it had a synth that was indistinguishable from the real xenomorphs that could go into the areas where they were farming the things. Not as dark as Labyrinth though.

The backstory was shocking and insane and Killian’s artwork was amazing, I loved his style. I’ll never forget that one scene where the hero tells the doctor to go to hell, and he simply replies something like, “nope, already been there.”

I also remember the brilliant artwork of Dennis Beauvis for Aliens: Book Two, which was the first comic I saw when it was serialised in a magazine here in the UK. Another story of a mad military commander who thinks he has the aliens under control, which he can control like an army.
