I can happily see the mander@mander.xyz community but cannot see communities such as biology@mander.xyz or natural_process_art@mander.xyz when using my feddut.uk account. Might be happening for communities on other instances but I haven’t noticed if that’s the case.

I have since made a lemmy.world account where I have no trouble doing so. Would love to stay on this instance long term - the local timeline is really great here (great going instance admins and mods)!

Just posting this to bring attention as I’m hoping this teething problem can be figured out at some point when the admins have some time to do so.

I can access biology@mander.xyz on feddit.uk at the URL https://feddit.uk/c/biology@mander.xyz

There are were no posts visible, which is probably because no one from our instance has subscribed to it yet. Until someone from feddit.uk subscribes to it, our instance won’t be receiving any content from it.

If you (or anyone else from feddit.uk) subscribes, then you’ll begin to see new content which is posted in future. If you want to make an existing post/comment visible within our instance, copy the link to the post/comment into the search box on our instance and it should then be retrieved and become visible.

I just tested this out by getting feddit.uk to retrieve this post which is now visible when you check biology@mander.xyz from this instance.

Federation certainly has a learning curve, but its not too bad once you get your head around it. Hope that helps explain it! 🙂

Aha, searching for a specific post URL is the key!

I had tried searching for the community with in the search bar and got nothing before as well as trying to just go straight to https://feddit.uk/c/natural_process_art@mander.xyz but I was getting 404: couldnt_find_community.

      Thanks for explaining this!
