For reasons known only to them, the studios have been saving some of their absolute best and most interesting 4K releases for the waning days of 2024, among them the most hotly debated movies of the past 12 months, as well as cult favorites and a few outright classics. In between the egg nog and the champagne, we pulled together this list of must-see-in-Ultra-HDs for your consideration as we toss another calendar into the recycling bin.
They are:
- The Searchers 4K (Warner Archive)
- No Country for Old Men 4K (Criterion Collection)
- Joker: Folie à Deux 4K (Warner)
- The Wild Robot 4K (Universal Pictures Home Entertainment)
- Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 4K (Warner)
- Demolition Man Limited Edition 4K (Arrow)
- Alien: Romulus 4K (20th Century/Disney)
- Transformers One 4K (Paramount)
- Legends of the Fall 4K (Sony)
- Willow 4K (Walt Disney)
Ironic that Willow gets a 4K physical release and the sequel series is gone forever. (Unless you sail the seven seas or I’m sure someone on Etsy has burned them to BDRs. 😆)
I liked the series. I actually bought a physical copy from eBay when they announced it was being removed, because I find this accounting strategy of deleting something from the universe forever completely outrageous. The bootleg is actually great: perfect quality and it even comes with a slip cover. Only downside is no chapter skips.
I expect they’re 1080p web downloads remuxed for BDRs. Allegedly. If you know about that sort of thing. 😆
I’ve been tempted to buy The Killer because that’s a Fincher film that won’t get a physical release I expect.
Oh, they absolutely are. I just prefer having a disc and case and don’t want to bother with doing it myself.
Ooh. Demolition man is in 4k?
It’s a really nice set
Wild Robot is incredibly well done.
