As explained by a Sony Japan representative, this end-of-production notice exclusively applies to blank optical discs. Sony will continue manufacturing Blu-ray movies and video games, meaning that we have not reached the “end of physical media,” as some publications have suggested.
Not the end, just an overture to the end.
I mean, not really. This story and then the inevitable clarification have been going in a loop for several cycles now. No one buys BD-Rs (and never really have), but plenty of people still buy Blu-ray and 4K discs, just going by the huge volume of new titles constantly being released.
