Yesterday, I discovered one of my favourite films, Guest House Paradiso, a British comedy film from 1999, got its first-ever Blu-ray release last month in the US. Unfortunately, once you factor in import fees, it works out to £50!!

So, while I sit around waiting for someone in the UK to publish it and for the official The Abyss announcement, share with us what you’ve picked up this month.

Utter bargain found today in a little charity shop in Norfolk. The Arrow Video edition of Twelve Monkeys, an upgrade to my very old DVD. Very happy.

Damn, I am way behind on my pick-ups. My free time has gone into my niece’s history essays but I’ll grab some time Tuesday and Wednesday to take photos and get posting.

How has that got a US release first? 🤷 We have so much classic British comedy that hasn’t had a Blu-ray release this seems a weird pick.

Just had a nose around - seems to be going for £20-25. Still a bit high but not a running kick in the plums.

edit: as the DVD isn’t going cheap, it’s probably not too awful.

I’ve had the DVD since it was released. I only found out because of a comment on a Instagram account account Bottom. Never saw it announced anywhere. I’m really hoping it’s getting a UK release. That’s not fair.

Where can you find it for that price? I can see it’s about $25+ but the delivery costs make it pointless.

It’s not really that it isn’t fair but it is a mystifying decision from Vinegar Syndrome as the bulk of the sales will be over here.

The problem is that all the fans will snap it up and it could kill the market for it here.

eBay and I’ve bought from them before. Rarewaves have it for £25 and they’re a solid seller too. I nearly bagged the £20 one but thought it was polite to let you have first dibs.

I’ll wait until I can find it cheaper, but I appreciate the thought.

The British Comedy Guide has a blank page for a Region B release with Powerhouse FIlms listed as the publisher. There is no date or any other information. Unfortunately, you can’t see when that page was created either, so I have no idea if it existed for many years for example.

EDIT: I’ve just found the Powerhouse Films thread over at the bluray.com forums. Apparently, their last newsletter teased GHP as an upcoming release and many replies state they’re now glad they didn’t order the Vinegar Syndrome copy and will now wait.

Ah yes. the rengineering of a holiday based in rebellion and role reversal into that of consumption.

    Name a more iconic duo.
