We will be visiting Manchester this coming weekend, and was wondering if there any locals here that might be able to suggest anything that might be quirky and fun to go and see?
For context, I have 13 and 8 year old daughters to try and keep interested so I want to mix a couple of things to keep them interested in with the things I want to do. I think doing a run around some of the vintage stores and the Pankhurst Centre could be good but does anyone have any other suggestions?
Afflecks Palace! The Goodall Gallery I think is still there opposite Afflecks but might be online only now. They have all sorts of kids graphic design, toys, posters etc. It was my favourite place when we lived there. Piccadilly Records and Forbidden Planet also, all in the same corner of town near/on Oldham Street
Thanks, I’ll look them up!
Taking your kids to the library might sound like a crazy idea but bear with me a moment. Check out the John Rylands library on Deansgate. From the outside it looks like a gothic church, you enter through a very modern gift store / cafe, walk up some stairs and then suddenly … you’re in Hogwarts! Well, not quite, but it’s an amazing Victorian building with lots of corridors and rooms and strangely-placed staircases and all that sort of thing. And the main reading room really could be straight out of Harry Potter.
Thank you, I’ll look it up. They are both still loving Harry Potter so that could be a great idea.
Museum of Science and Industry (if they’re into that sort of thing)
