Hersey, The Thing isn’t even in the top 5. I wouldn’t classify The Silence of the Lambs as horror personally.

I did open it up going “it better have The Thing in there somewhere”. Unfortunately, it is actually #102 on the list, presumably because it wasn’t well-received when it came out but went in to be a cult classic.

Isn’t it interesting that upon release The Thing wasn’t well received at all, it got horrid reviews. I just think the camera work style Carpenter used was so unlike movies at the time, it didn’t land, but over time people began to appreciate the movie as John Carpenter intended in the first place.

I know and it’s a damn shame. They also had scathing reviews for the lack of personality to the characters which is a load of bull. Sadly Carpenters whole career was so underappreciated. I’m glad he’s getting the recognition he deserves now, but when you work your buns off for decades only to get shit on left and right, finally getting love almost 40 years after the fact is kind of too little too late.

I would say it’s a horror movie, but I get where you’re coming from as it might feel more like a thriller, but in my eyes it’s a horror movie and every Hannibal movie is.

    2. Alien/Aliens - don’t make me choose
    3. Braindead
    4. Shaun of the Dead
    5. Evil Dead 2

I like your list, while I’m not that into the “old” (says the person that has The Shining as his profile picture…) movies I still really appreciate what they brought to the genre!

I’m not that into the “old” … movies

It may just be that I’m “old” - the bulk of those I first watched on VHS.

So, anyway, now I’m intrigued to see your top five. 🤔

Haha, I might try to give you them.

Note that with me “top five” and top lists in general it’s hard to define as there is so many great movies out there. But If I would have to give those movies that had the biggest impact on me:

            1. SAW
            1. The Shining
            1. The Conjuring
            1. Evil Dead Rise
            1. Ichi The Killer

I’ve got a thing for brutality in movies, I really don’t know why, maybe life has made me appreciate being able to face it on screen and not in real life? To be honest brutality I’ve faced like most people, not physical but you know what I mean.

This is a list I just made, and if I would have a top 10 list more of the Saw movies including SAW X and VI would be added to be completely honest 🤣

I hope I didn’t touch a nerve with the whole “old” stuff. I love movies from those times.

Honestly, not a great top list. These first 5 positions, for example, feel too 90s centric to me. I’ve checked the first 50 movies in the top and, come on, The Invisible man (2020) in 14th position and A quiet place (2018) in 10th place? Way above classics like The Exorcist, Rosemary’s Baby or Night of the Living Dead?

Overall, though, an interesting list to explore the genre these days. I will be watching some good horror movies I’ve missed recently. Thanks for sharing.

    My list:

    1.The Thing

    1. It Comes at Night

    2. Alien

    3. Hereditary

    4. Us

1/2 switch pretty frequently. The Thing id almost definitely a better movie than ICAN. I’d actually go so far as to say The Thing is one of the few movies I would label as perfect in every way. But ICAN was just one of the most gutwrenching things I’ve ever sat through (in a good way).
