The UK is cosmopolitan because it doesn’t overthink

    Not convinced about the connection. As the author mentions this is totally different to the situation in America - which is not exactly renowned for the deep intellectualism of its politics.

      Only the farm takes up most of the day and at night I just like a cup of tea. I might not be able to devote myself full time to the old racism.

    Britain’s prime minister? Asian. London’s mayor? Asian. Scotland’s first minister? Asian. His main opponent? Asian. As for the probable next chairman of the BBC, he isn’t Cornish.

    Extremely weird of the author to use Cornish here, I am sure that identity has always been underrepresented in British high society

    I loved this op-ed and I think the author has put his finger on something true about the UK. There is a (probably apocryphal) Napoleon quote where he dismisses us as being a “nation of shopkeepers” and I think the author is expressing similar sentiments here.
