Good Afternoon folks. It’s time for our first weekly ‘What I’m Playing’ thread.

We’ll keep this simply: What games have been occupying your time over the last seven days?

My son got Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the switch at Christmas and so I’ve been playing that. It’s a fun activity do with him as he a absolutely loves it! The slow nature drives me mad though, every interaction takes forever, and I don’t really get the aim of the game other than to build a nice island.

I think that’s pretty much it. Chill out, build a nice little community and take pleasure in only being able to do X things a day.

I know during Lockdown it was absolutely essential for me and my partner. We got the kid to bed and then would spend an hour or two just maintaining our islands and it was genuinely just…nice.

    I’ll kick us off:

    The Surge 2

It took me about a week of tweaking with this game on my Steamdeck before I finally decided to play it on the PS5, and I’m really glad I made that decision because there’s a really good Soulslike here. It’s not perfect, and I had some issues with merely getting around the world, and the boss design is a bit hit and miss…but the rest of the game is a fantastic ‘one of those’.

    Tape 2 Tape

Arcade Hockey games aren’t really a thing anymore, but this little Early Access title is the gift that keeps on giving. I don’t play it for long, but I’ll spend an hour or so over the week just pottering around in the free-play mode getting my arse kicked by the admittedly harsh computer controlled teams but even with that, it’s a really solid entry into this forgotten about genre.

I’ve finally got around to playing Control. I’m refusing to read any reviews outside of knowing “it’s good”, as I do with any of my games so that I don’t spoil any story, but after a couple of hours in and I am finding it quite confusing as to what on earth is going on.

I think (to some extent) that’s normal. It’s been a few years since I played it, but I remember the opening few hours are all over the map. You’re probably doing the right thing by going in blind though.
