The idyllic and peaceful landscapes of Dungeness, the UK’s only desert, should be all you need for an otherworldly getaway right without going abroad.
Based in Kent, Dungeness is described by reviewers on Tripadvisor as a ‘history-filled natural paradise’ with sandy terrains stretching 16km long.
With views like that, it should come as no surprise that the place was identified by Jeep as one of the best ‘off the beaten track’ places to visit this Easter.
From seals, to Arctic terns, to porpoises, Dungeness is full of lively wildlife and unexpected treasures to discover.
Took the little train down to the power station the other day, interesting trip, need to find more time to explore dungeness at some point
Is it a desert?
Wikipedia:
“It has previously been reported that Dungeness had such low rainfall as to qualify as the only desert in the UK. However, a spokesperson for the Met Office refuted this in 2015”
I think that’s why they call it a ‘desert’.
But, but, … the spokesperson!
