All a bit sad but heroin addicts tend to be self-destructive at the best of times - half the smackheads I know managed to kick the habit and go on to lead productive lives but I still see a few around begging (when they aren’t banged up) and they are getting on a bit now.
Add in bad advice, likely a few parasites putting their hand in his pocket and this isn’t a huge surprise.

I know some who have managed to hold down successful careers despite their habit. I wonder how many hidden “functional” users there are
