    Hopefully its ignoble failure will dissuade other countries from trying similar schemes. I’m pretty tired of the UK being the testing ground for terrible ideas.

      To be fair it was Australia that pioneered this particular idea. Then Israel copied them. I think we’re the third country to try a scheme like this.

          Yeah, their scheme was/is harsher than the Rwanda one, too. I think there are still people being held somewhere in Papa New Guniea who arrived by boat in Australia over a decade ago.

        I mean you could argue we (Brits) did it first by shipping people off to Australia as a deterrent.
