Your Tories sound like our Republicans. Spend and spend without raising taxes, drive your country into deep debt, privatize everything so your friends can make money off it, leave the mess for the other party to clean up when they get elected. Throw a hissy fit when taxes go up to pay the check. Repeat this cycle over and over.

Ironically the Tories were always seen as the responsible party for the nations finances.

What’s happened is 14 years of rule with corruption and far right politics creeping in.

They never were the responsible party. It’s a myth. Your better informed now, than in the past. It’s the only thing that’s changed.

The conservatives control the narrative of politics and the media. Even when not in power. When Cameron came to power the media kept pushing the message that he has reformed the tories, they are no longer the nasty corrupt party. Rise and repeat the same thing will happen again. This is how the tories spend most of the time in power since working class people got the vote, despite labour being better reprentation of them and their issues. Even when not in power

Labour are still heavily influenced by the tories. Margret Thatcher said Tony Blair was her greatest achievement.

It’s insane people fall for this again and again. People that think government doesn’t work and is ineffective shouldn’t be chosen to lead governments. They won’t do a good job. Either they don’t believe it’s possible, they want bad governance or their ideological beliefs will prevent them from doing a good job. Instead this paradox has been labelled as ‘responsible’.

Yes, US republicans also claim to be more responsible with government finances and have had far right factions taking over the past 20 years or so

I bet if you shook a couple castles and country houses you could scrounge up a few pounds.

Not necessarily. A lot of the old aristocracy isn’t all that wealthy any more. Not uncommon to hear stories where only a handful of rooms in a country house are occupied because they can’t afford to heat the rest.

If we want to raise taxes the real target should be tackling the tax avoidance of enterprise.

Ms Reeves reiterated that she would not raise VAT, national insurance or income tax, as promised in Labour’s manifesto, but she did not rule out increasing inheritance tax, capital gains tax, or reforming tax relief on pensions.

It’s good to see my kindred across the pond finding their way. A pity the USA is to selfish to follow their lead.
