Look I know, Clarks are expensive. I knew this going in. I also knew the little guy had flat out refused to wear every other pair of shoes we’d ever bought him…I was desperate.

That said, I wasn’t expecting to have to make a call to my bank manager to renegotiate my nonexistent mortgage before laying my phone down on the card machine.

Madness.

Gave up on Clarks years ago… the premium just isn’t worth it.

M&S and Next, when they have kids shoes in the Sales, are up there with the quality. But, recently we’ve been kitting ours out with shoes from Vinted. Seriously do not understand how these people have hardly-worn shoes and let them go for £6 or so - but it’s been a blinder so far.

A neighbour recommended them just after I told her how much money I’d spent at Clarks. I’ll definitely be giving them a look.

I get the majority of my son’s stuff on Vinted and sell on stuff that’s still decent quality, the cost of new clothing for kids just keeps sky rocketing and they only fit into them for such a short time anyways.

I also go to local kids’ clothes and toys charity sales and find so much for him, especially barely used books for mere pence!

I don’t understand the trend of buying children of any age branded clothes especially considering how they will be treated. Plus a baby doesn’t know what Nike is, it’s just the parents showing they have more money than sense.

Unfortunately, when it comes to school shoes, it always pays to spend a little more. We always went to a Clarks Outlet shop so they would be a little cheaper but we’re still talking £30-40. My eldest now has size 14 feet like me and he’s only 14 so getting any shoes for him is a nightmare.

I had to do the same thing recently - Went into Sports Direct, our 7-year-old tried on about 30 pairs of trainers before we gave up and went to Clarks. Even then it took about 8 pairs and a very patient sales assistant.

We ended up getting school shoes at the same time, and they don’t tell you the shoe prices until you get to the checkout and have to fork out over £80…

Anything for a quiet life, eh.

45 quid for not even a kid yet shoes! They probably won’t even last that long.

He’ll get maybe 3-4 months out of them before his feet are just too big. I basically paid for the privilege of getting someone professional to ‘measure’ his feet up. Believe me, I won’t be back there until next September when we buy another pair of shoes for the older kids school.

Which to be fair, have always held up pretty well across the school year.
