Kurt Eisner, born on this day in 1867, was a German socialist revolutionary and radical journalist who was assassinated by a far-right nationalist while serving as head of the People’s State of Bavaria.

Kurt Eisner, born to a Jewish family in Berlin, was a revolutionary German socialist, radical journalist, and theater critic. Before leading the People’s State of Bavaria, he worked as a journalist in Marburg, Nuremberg, and Munich. In the early 1890s, Eisner served nine months in prison for writing an article that attacked Kaiser Wilhelm II.

In 1918, Eisner was convicted of treason for his role in inciting a strike of munitions workers. He spent nine months in Cell 70 of Stadelheim Prison, but was released during the General Amnesty in October of that year.

Following his release from prison, Eisner helped organize the revolution that overthrew the Bavarian monarchy, declaring Bavaria to be a free state and republic. Despite Eisner’s socialist politics, he explicitly distanced the movement from the Bolsheviks and promised to uphold property rights.

On February 21st, 1919, while on his way to deliver his resignation to Parliament, Eisner was assassinated in Munich by a far-right German nationalist. Eisner’s murder made him a martyr for left-wing causes, and a period of lawlessness in Bavaria followed his death.

On the night of April 6th-7th, 1919, communists, encouraged by the news of the communist revolution in Hungary, declared a Soviet Republic, with Ernst Toller as chief of state. The Bavarian Soviet Republic was crushed by the right-wing German Freikorps.

Some of the military leaders of the Freikorps, including Rudolf Hess and Franz Ritter von Epp, would go on to become powerful figures in the Nazi Party. Ironically, Adolf Hitler himself marched in the funeral procession for Eisner, a Jew, wearing a red armband as a display of sympathy.

“Truth is the greatest of all national possessions. A state, a people, a system which suppresses the truth or fears to publish it, deserves to collapse.”

I decided to start walking about 3 miles a day in the morning. It took just over an hour. I hope it will do good in the long term. I have heard eating less and some walking can help reduce fat around the abdomen. I guess more than anything, planning and succeeding on this front is good for building self-confidence.

I was looking up the 4B feminist movement in Korea and one of the first things it threw up (literally) was the Asmongold subreddit complaining about misandry and speculating on whether the jews global elites were behind feminism. : p

I just read that vampires are weak to weapons of peasants, while werewolves are weak to weapons of aristocracy. Therefore, hellfire missiles would kill werewolves, but vampires are killed by kalashnikovs. The AR-15, being a weapon of the petit bourgeois, would kill neither.

“Communists defeat supernatural with the power of state atheism and the dialectic” is not a large genre but it is one of my favs. I can’t think of any right now except that love and robots episode where the red army troops track down the horrors and then the murder demons learn that being an demonic hive of scp horrors doesn’t mean shit against the industrial might of the union of soviet socialist republics.

“I don’t like tomatoes they make the bread wet” MFs are terrible kissers.

They don’t have the practice that only having sloppy messy makeout sessions with a beanburger that’s actively falling apart can give you.

My neighbor’s garage burned last night. I had a very big day full of great things and then it got punctuated with hearing a pop and minutes later seeing the light of the fire. My friends and I ran out from the yard and just, there it was. A pillar of fire consuming the garage. We were incredibly lucky that it had rained recently and that fire department showed up when they did. Like not even five more minutes and it looked like it would have caught the trees or the next house.

It was so bizarre, but weirdly human and . . . I don’t really want to use positive words, but almost encouraging how the entire block came out. And everyone was just doing these very instinctual behaviors of checking with each other what had happened and what it meant and how they felt. I don’t know. I feel terrible for my neighbors. They’d been friends of ours and I want to figure out something to help. At least bring them some food. They lost a lot it sounds like, even though it thankfully didn’t get to the house.

I dunno. It was just really intense

Went to a gun range cause I wanted to rent a machine gun. The safety guy had a idf-cool patch on his plate carrier and the guy in the lane next to us had a shirt that said infidel on it.

Cool. Magdumping the ak was a lot of fun though.

Sometimes I wonder if the “cringe reddit atheist” label did more harm than good. Like, there are definitely religious people on the Internet who use that label to shut down ALL criticism of religion, even if it’s relevant to the conversation at hand, and if it’s a legitimate criticism.

Furthermore, many times these reddit atheists are actual teenagers, just learning atheism, and sometimes, have a good reason to be angry. Like, religious parents hanging religion over their head constantly.

One simple question to sort the reddit atheist wheat from the chaff: which is more harmful, Christianity or Islam?

The correct answer is obviously kkkristianity.

Trick question. The notion of a secular social or political sphere is inherently modern, and even in the modern day many secular societies are still enmeshed in secular religions that reproduce many of the harms of theistic religions. Once we’ve successfully killed god we’re gonna have to hunt down George Washington and Europa and beat them to death.

Also, all the bad things happened in religious societies, but all the good things happened in religous societies too and trying to separate those things is ashistorical nonesense. It’s also anti-materialist. Religion is oppressive because it is part of societies with oppressive economic systems. Feudalism without Christianity or Islam or Hindu or whatever is still feudalism. The ruling powers would have come up with some other thought system to justify their power and oppression if no one had ever thought up gods. You can’t address the oppressions of religion without addressing class, race, gender, and other oppresions as part of the same political program. This is readily apparent in history if one just looks at all the proto-socialist movements that arose in a religious context, were justified by religious beliefs, and very often promoted radical class, gender, racial, and other equalities before they were crushed by the ruling powers. Religion isn’t oppressive in and of itself, but it is a component of the vast machine of oppression which comprises our capitalist world.

As a cringe reddit atheist who told the new atheists to fuck off and die once i realized they were all just reactionary islamaphobes (i yelled at dawkins about his ridiculous ignorance regarding Islamic history during one of his amas!) I think that the combination of New Atheism and the mostly justified reaction to New Atheism has been disastrous both to Atheism as a recognition of the state of the world, to the ongoing battle against Christian Fascism specifically and religious oppression generally, and to my on going mission to attack and dethrone god.

In my personal analysis a great deal of American’s relationship to religion is defined by religious trauma stemming from the violence of major Christian sects. Many people become at least partially defined by how they react to that violence - some become generically de-religiousized, some try to find a replacement christianity in various sects or neo-religions, some become reactionary atheist scum who turn to naked racism and bigotry under a tissue thin guise of critique of religion.

There are lots of jobaday atheists and skeptics out there, but “i don’t believe there are any gods or magical phenomena” isn’t very exciting or dramatic so it doesn’t get a lot of press. But after the reaction against New Atheism, as far as I can tell, they have almost no presence in the public eye and partially as a result of that there’s no atheist perspective on the battle against Christian Fascism. We just lost that entirely when New Atheism became the face of atheist thought and then everyone decided that any and all atheists are bigotted new atheist scum.
