A body has been found in the search for TV and radio presenter Dr Michael Mosley on the Greek island of Symi.

The 67-year-old went missing on Wednesday after setting off on a walk from Agios Nikolaos beach.

The body - which has yet to be formally identified - was found at a small cliff on the rocky hill north-east of Pedi village, near Agia Marina beach.

Authorities had been searching for Dr Mosley in a remote mountainous area.

Symi’s mayor said the body was found as teams were searching the coastline with cameras and were approaching a cave next to Agia Marina beach.

A police source told BBC News the deceased had been dead “for a number of days”.

The body has not been identified. It might not be him. This is a non-story until it is identified. Surprised it was so prematurely reported.

Read between the lines. Just because the formality of identification hasn’t been stamped and filed yet doesn’t mean the journalists reporting this have no idea its him. Its clearly him, this sort of thing happens all the time. Cf “he died after a long illness” being code for “cancer”.

They could have just waited a tiny bit.

It’s a small island and dead bodies don’t turn up every day. They’d know it was him immediately, they just wouldn’t announce it until the body had been formally identified.

      It has now been confirmed.

Yer I got the update. Just seams odd to go public until they had identified the body. I mean it wasn’t a long wait.
