They can’t seriously think that squeezing another PM in before the election is going to do anything other than make them look even more of a joke

Easy for every one to try and claim irs a new party. With different goals.

Likely the party will pull together to gide their disagreements. At least untill the election finishes.

Well fortunately they’re mind numbingly stupid and keep burning all possible life rafts. They don’t seem to think it’s been a good day unless they’ve threatened to violate human rights laws in some way. They definitely seem to think this is a vote winner despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I think if they do this, the landslide will be even bigger. Those nasty party policies don’t win votes. It seams a lesson the Conservative party keeps forgetting.

Is she on board with this idea? At this point the leadership isn’t so much a poisoned chalice as it is a live grenade. Wouldn’t it be better to let Sunak be blamed for the defeat and take over leadership of the Tory party after the election? I’m sure she said in the past that she isn’t interested in taking the party to the polls.

She’s pretty much the only way the situation could get worse. But it won’t happen because she’s only popular with the hardline Tories, the one nation Torres (what I call Tory Classic) don’t like her. They don’t really like Mordant if it comes to it, but she’s less extreme and so more acceptable to them.

After the prime minister was dealt a blow by the defection of former minister Dr Dan Poulter, Tory rebels hatched a “100 days to save Britain” plan whereby Ms Mordaunt – best known for wielding a ceremonial sword at the King’s coronation – would become PM.

There’s a simpler “100 days to save Britain” - calling a General Election. I bet Sunak is sitting there with a Dead Man’s Electoral Trigger just daring anyone to have a go if they think they’re hard enough.

They really have looked at a few people on Twitter thinking it was kinda funny/cool to see her carrying a sword around and interpreted that as an actual organising principle. Stupid, stupid, stupid. This is what happens when you have no material political analysis and just surf around on vibes.

Remember Ed Miliband? He was a terrible politician because someone took a photo of him at the precise second his face looked funny while eating a sandwich.

But yeah, Mordants the next leader because she dressed nice and carried a sword once… FFS.

That feels like a real sliding doors moment in modern UK life - because of that sandwich we got Brexit and years of Tory misrule.

Though it’s all a bit jokey, I also kind of believe that’s to some degree true.

It’s the new generation’s “If you discover time travel, go back and kill Hitler”.

I have said before that I’d go back and slap the buttie out of his hands. I mean, it wouldn’t be the first thing I’d do after inventing time travel but it’s in the top ten.

Even today, there’s a meaningful chunk of people who are going to show up and vote for this clown show despite the past decade and a half

What level of reasoning did you think they were capable of?

Insanity. It’s like an extra-clown car version of that shit singing interview show with James Corden or whoever.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Rishi Sunak is facing a plot by desperate right-wing Tory MPs planning to ditch the prime minister and replace him with Penny Mordaunt to avoid an electoral wipeout, it is claimed.

The rebels are said to believe that if Commons leader Ms Mordaunt took power and launched a series of right-wing initiatives on tax, immigration and other issues, it could avert a Labour landslide in the election later this year.

The five-point plan includes efforts to end the junior doctors’ pay dispute, cut net migration, boost defence spending, slash the benefits bill, and bring in tougher sentences for serious offenders.

And ahead of what could be a make-or-break week for Mr Sunak’s premiership, the prime minister again refused to rule out going to the country this summer, keeping the door open to a July general election.

There were rumours swirling in Westminster on Friday that Mr Sunak could fire the starting gun on an election campaign as soon as Monday in a bid to thwart a possible challenge, though Downing Street brushed them off.

Mr Sunak sought to bolster his premiership this week with a flurry of announcements, including the passing of Rwanda asylum legislation and a pledge to spend 2.5 per cent of gross domestic product on defence by 2030.
